Basement Flood Damage
When flooding occurs, the basement is usually the first area affected due to it being the lowest level. Flooding can sometimes be from overflowing rivers, or sewage and drain backups. When flood water enters a building it is considered contaminated water due to it being an outside water source or sewage. This leads to the extraction, cleaning, and anti-microbial treatment of the affected the area. This is a relatively simple process unless the basement is finished. Finished basements with carpeting, paneling, and or drywall/plaster hold onto contaminated water thus leading to the necessary removal of the finished carpentry. In the before in after pictures, there was no carpeting, but there was unfortunately drywall and insulation. Since they had become saturated they had to be removed in order to dry the wall behind and to stop any development of mold.
